Mix This #4

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

The fourth Mix This project has started over at the Home Recording Review Forum <- referral link

This time the project is an hardcore/emo style rock song, fairly poppy and should be fun to mix. I used a bit to much Space Echo in mine, but sometimes too much is just right, especially when it comes to Space Echo. :)

Participate in the Mix This #4 project here: Mix This #4. It’s in the members only section so you must sign up to participate or get the files.

If you’re looking for some multitrack projects to practice mixing on, this is for you.

The Levelator – easy loudness processor for podcasts

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Looking for something really easy to use that makes your podcasts both louder and better sounding? Try The Levelator.

What does it do? It quickly processes your wav or aiff files, evening out the average volume and normalizes it as well as evening out left-right differences on stereo recordings. It’s not a substitute to mixing or mastering, but for things where quick turnaround and quality is less of an issue like a podcast this is great. It’s probably great for YouTube videos too.

How does it work? Just drag and drop. filename.wav gets processed and a new file called filename.output.wav is created in the same folder. Can’t be any easier.

Below is a before and after screenshot of the waveforms.

The Levelator is FREE for PC, Mac and Linux.

Archiving a Pro Tools Session

Monday, August 20th, 2007

This week I’m going to explain what you need to do in order to properly export a Pro Tools session to back it up or to send to someone else.

Open PT and push Ctrl/Command O and select the session you want to archive.

So everything looks nice and organized fit all the tracks to the screen and Alt/Option A to view the entire session.

Monday, August 20th, 2007

From this post on Womb.mixerman.net

Compressing the Stereo Mix Buss

There are essentially 3 ways to use buss compression on your mix.

1. Put it on near the end of the mix.
2. Put it on from the beginning of the mix.
3. Don’t put it on @ all.
