I got a good deal on a Roland RE-150 Space Echo today at a Salvation Army auction. This is not the same as the the more famous RE-201. The difference being this one doesn’t have the spring reverb.
It doesn’t work though
One more pic
There’s not a lot of info on these on the Interwebs.
The meter lights up and there is a roller that moves but the tape does not. I haven’t tried passing audio through it yet, there’s not much point without the tape moving.
If anyone knows about these please contact me.
[edit] I got it working, a roller just needed some oil and now it runs. I may still get it serviced to get the tape speed more steady, but that may be as simple as a new tape cartridge.
Also Interesting:

i have one and can’t tell you how great it is. i use it as s end going though my amek board and it is just wonderful. i frequently use it as a “front end” before my reverb. it’s so great sounding. congrats on getting it running…
Congrats on the purchase! Space Echo’s are my favorite delays/reverbs ever. Have fun with it.
Hey !
I also bought a reel to reel tape machine last week that needs a little bit of maintenance…
It’s a Uher Royal Deluxe C. A mono/stereo/4tracks/echo with 1/2inch tape.
It works with the great piano / orchestral record that was inside it. The tape only needed to be reversed to work ! The 1/2 echo positions add a slight chorus/flange on the faster tape speed.
I haven’t tryed to record my guitar for the moment, but I hope it will work.
Does anybody built a feedback adaptator for this kind of tape machine ?
I’ve been thinking about that feedback question, trying to figure out how the feedback function of a tape delay actually works.
Here’s the link to the service manual for your Uher: http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/20172/Uher_Uher%20Royal.html
I think what you’d need to do is wire the output of the play head back into the input of the record head. With a potentiometer in between of course to control the amount of feedback.
Thanks for the advice.
I tried to record my guitar amp this morning through an old carbon mic in the mic preamp.
First : the record function works !
Second : the slowest speed is too noisy, but the fastest is great !
The echo function works and also the input level vu-meter. There is a feedback pot for ethe echo, that can be weird in a good way !
I didn’t had a realtime monitoring withe the echo during recording for the moment, but I need to test the other outputs.
Only sad thing : the counter is always at 0000 !
hey, i have one of these exact models, great condition, full restored etc. thinking of selling it, does anyone know how much these things go for?I know if I take it to a shop I’ll get knocked down as they have to re-sell, so not sure how much I should ask for. Cheers!
I’d says it’s worth up to $300 US.
