Happy 2009 everybody!
The site has had tremendous growth in the past year. But I’ll be honest, I don’t have any big plans for the site in the next year. I’ll leave it up to the readers to decide what happens.
I have two goals for the site this year.
- Comments. I don’t know exactly how, but I’d like to see more people commenting.
- Profits. It was just dumb luck that I had a product I could sell in 2008, it more than paid for itself but I haven’t even started on a new sample pack. Ads bring in very little, I’m going to have to put in some effort to beat 2008’s profits.
What do you, the readers of Audio Geek Zine want to see?
Long articles? Like the Audio Effects Explained series?
Short articles? Like the random links posts when I’m too lazy to write proper posts?
Video posts? When I find cool or interesting (to me) videos from around the web?
Video tutorials? I don’t do this often, mostly because it’s a ton of work and I’m never happy with the result, I’m willing to give it another go in 2009.
Product Reviews? I don’t buy a lot of new gear and companies RARELY give me free stuff to review, but of course I like when they do.
Music Reviews? That died off pretty quick in the first year, a lot of the submissions were electronic dance music that didn’t excite me and I didn’t want to be negative. Maybe just promote the albums and bands, new and old, that I like?
Free stuff alerts? I’ve been cutting back on this lately.

no music reviews, but all of the other ideas are worthy. i could do without the product reviews, as there are enough of those types of sites. short quickie articles would be great to keep the post count up though. i mean, i’m all about quality over quantity, but let’s face it a blog isn’t a blog if it’s rarely updated.

+1 on no music reviews. I also listen to your podcast on the road when I travel. I believe some of the segments are great, but too short.
You should try to include more guests here and on the podcast. The podcast episode when you included some enthusiast discussing DIY gear was great. There exists all sort of musicians and geeks doing interesting stuff!
Video tutorials: +10. I know they may be a pain in the ass to do, but they are great. I have been posting video tutorials on Pro Tools 8 and Cubase/Nuendo on You Tube lately myself.
It’s fun to help people out and see the response you get from them.

I’d love to see you do a Beat Detective tutorial dvd/download video with included projects. I know there are other ones out there, but because you also work with heavier styles of music, I think people would learn much more. Quantizing slow drum patterns is easy, but you have great experience quantizing fast drums too.
It’s just an idea, I think you could make a bit of money from this and I’m sure it wouldn’t take too long to produce such a video.

Niall that’s an interesting idea, I’ve thought of doing it in the past but I think it would conflict with Beatfixx.
On the other hand, it could be more profitable than Beatfixx and I wouldn’t have to do it anymore.
I’ll keep thinking about it.
