Thursday, October 2nd, 2008I was going to post about the new Pro Tools 8 features that were just announced. But then I found this video and it’s much more entertaining. You know how I LOVE T-Pain.

Alright, looks like it’s that time again where I’ve got too much to talk about and not enough time or energy to write full posts for each thing. Links ahoy!
Koblo – Yesterday IHR had an interview with Michael Logue of Koblo.com and it sounded so great I immediately signed up and put my music on there. Posting music there is so much better than myspace or the others, and I loved that once I made playlists I could grab a widget to put on my other website. The Music section of the site is fantastic.
I tried out Koblo Studio last night, which is their open source DAW. I like the general layout and most of the features so far, but it’s far from complete and very buggy on my system. It was so buggy I uninstalled it within half an hour of checking it out. It does have a lot of potential, it could be great in 6 months, not that I would switch from Pro Tools.
Right now the only problem with Koblo as a social networking/music collaboration site is that there are not enough users (less than 600 right now), so sign up!
Recording Hacks – Recently I came across a great resource. RecordingHacks.com has begun a database of microphones. It’s easily searchable and gives you just the information you need without the marketting garbage of an online store or manufacturer description. Matt McGlynn is doing a fantastic job on the site and I really appreciate the effort.

Downtime – Bluehost decided to move my files to another box, a process that resulted in about 10 hours of downtime for the site. I wish they would have told me ahead of time, as well as putting up a notification about the server update instead of just nothing. It was extremely annoying for me as not only was this site down, all the mp3s for the podcast were missing too! Sorry about that, there was nothing I could do.
Rough Rider – Audio Damage’s first compressor VST is brilliant. I’m loving it for drum buses and room mics. Very aggressive colored compression, it’s perfect. It’s also FREE!!!

rs-met Pitch Shifter – Another plugin I’ve been having a lot of fun with is this realtime pitch shifter plugin. It’s great for giant demonic voices. It’s free!!

All EQs are the same - Here’s an interesting geeky post about plugin EQs. Might make you think twice before getting that ‘vintage’ modelled EQ plugin.

That’s all for now!
Mixing is not easy, using the right eq, the right compression and other effects isn’t enough. It needs to be exciting. Here’s 3 ways you can add excitement and take the mix to the next level.
