Upright Piano Recording Pics

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

This past Thursday I helped record some upright piano for Allie Hughes at Revolution Audio. The piano is in the basement below the studio live room. I ran cables down through the floor for mics and headphones. The mics used were an AKG C3000 on the left side, and a C414B XLII on the right side, each are about a foot away which reduced the proximity effect as well as the mechanical noises. It’s a great old piano. I would have liked to have a ribbon overhead but I wasn’t running the session. Anyway here’s some pics.

I'll Be Lovin' Transfuser Long Time

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

As if the song didn’t sound bad enough, I did a quick remix of Mariah Carey’s I’ll Be Lovin’ You Long Time using only Digidesign Transfuser and the Amen break. All effects were done in real time.

The original wasn’t nearly bit-crushed enough. I could do a lot more to it, but I’m sick of hearing her voice!

You can get the multi-tracks for the remix contest on the Indaba website.

Even more delay compensation for Pro Tools

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

I’ve talked a lot about delay compensation in Pro Tools this month, mostly about the Mellowmuse ATA plugin, here, here, and on the podcast. Around the same time I came across some tutorials for manual delay compensation, but I forgot to post them, oops!

On Gearslutz, Peeder posted a link to his great free tutorial videos on Delay compensation in PT LE/M-P.

Focusrite also has a short tutorial on using the Liquidmix in Pro Tools.
