This new Auto Time Adjuster plugin took me a while to figure out, so I figured I’d save everyone else the trouble by giving you step by step instructions on how to use it.
- Buss all your audio tracks to a ‘dry bus’ aux track with no other plugins on it
- open ATA on insert A of all tracks. Hold Alt/Option to do to all tracks at once.
- set ATA mode to audio for audio tracks, aux for aux tracks, and master for on the master fader.
- Bypass all other inserts (ctrl/command + alt/option to do all at once)
- Bypass all sends (ctrl/command + alt/option to do all at once)
- On your master ATA click the P (ping) button
- Re-enable all your inserts and sends (ctrl/command + alt/option to do all at once)
- enjoy your perfectly delay compensated mix.
This is the method that worked for me, let me know if I missed anything.
Note that step 4 is different than in their video tutorial, I found from my own testing today that this is the only way it works. The video tutorial uses the digi time adjuster plugin, not actual plugins (ie ones that alter the sound) and pinging was less effective unless done with the inserts bypassed.
Don’t forget that the price of ATA goes up to $49 on Aug 1 2008, and it also requires the FXpansion VST to RTAS wrapper.
Also Interesting:

[...] Geek Zine have posted a step-by-step guide on how to use the Auto Time Adjuster, and it actually differs a little from Mellowmuse own [...]
Great work
Do you know if this plug moves the tracks with no latency plugins to line up with the tracks containing latency OR moves the tracks that needs to be moved due to latency plugins like the UAD-1 stuff to line up with the rest of the track that does not have any latency issues?
If you work with audio for movies you have to stay in sync with picture

doesn’t move the tracks at all, it delays everything so that it winds up at your main outputs at the same time.
Should work fine with UAD, liquidmix, hardware inserts as well as RTAS increased latency when mixing isn’t an issue, unless of course you’re locked to picture.
I’m really not certain about what to do about locked to picture stuff.
So Santa comes early this year for PT LE users in music production
Too bad it won’t work when you have to be locked to picture but you can’t have it all I guess
cheers / Mike
John, thanks for the tutorial. It’s clearer than the one by Mellowmuse.
