I’m always on the lookout for new impulse responses to use in TL Space, so I was delighted to find RetroVerb by MoReVoX.

What is RetroVerb?

[This article is part of The Home Recording Show Podcast, coming soon!]

Whenever we use two or more microphones on a single source we need to be aware of phase cancellation and comb filtering. Due to the time delay of the sound waves hitting the microphone elements at different times, partial phase cancellation will occur.

And I’m exhausted.

I saw some great bands though.

Friday night after working at the convention I walked up to The Mod Club to meet my drinking buddy Marta and see The Creepshow at 9. They’re a Toronto based psychobilly band that was a ton of fun. Great show, poor attendance unfortunately (though it was only 9pm and still light out). I tripped over Wade Macneil (twice going to and from the can) of Alexisonfire/Black Lungs. This is a band I’m definitely going to see again.

Then came the rain, a big thunderstorm started just before leaving the Mod Club, the street was closed off because of the Taste Of Little Italy festival so we had run to catch a taxi. (more…)

Sh!t we're back up

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

After almost 4 days of being offline Audio Geek Zine is finally live again.

So what happened?

The domain name was expiring on March 23rd but it was locked and auto-renew was selected. I didn’t think about it at all until I saw that Server Not Found error on Friday morning.

Unfortunately I didn’t check if I had the right CC expiry date on file, and they couldn’t auto-renew (they could have called me and none of this would have happened). and then on Friday (about 60 days later) I’ve got no DNS.

So 5 chats, 1 phone call and $80! later we’re back up. I had no idea it would take so long.

Enough of that nonsense. What else is going on.

A Podcast – starting hopefully next week I’ll be posting a podcast that myself, Ryan Canestro (Adventures in Sound) and Des McKinney (Hometracked) are working on. The general topic we’ll be talking about is getting professional results in your low budget home studio. Cheap gear, plugins, DAWs and techniques we love it all and love geeking out about it. Let us know if there is anything specific you’d like us to talk about.
