All I Want For Christmas

  1. Red5 RVK7 Delux Drum kit microphone set – A good variety of mics with hard cases and great price.
  2. Hercules GS503B – I need a replacement for my cheapo stands, Hercules are the best I’ve seen.
  3. Presonus DigiMax FS – 8 high quality preamps with digital and analog outs for about $85/channel. It’s superior clock will improve the sound of my 002R as well.
  4. Shure SM7B – A workhorse mic for vocals and guitar amps. Sounds like a combination of a dynamic and condenser.
  5. Presonus HP4 – I need this to add discrete headphone mixes to my setup, I’d likely get 2 of them.

This is just some of the stuff I’d like to get to build a decent mobile/studio rig so I can do some serious recording. If the Digimax FS works out, I might get rid of the 002R and go with an M-Audio ProfireLightbridge and 1-3 more DigiMaxes for up to 32 channel simultaneous recording, although it would be rare to need 32 inputs at once.

edit – ahhh, I had to rewrite this because one of my WP plugins thought I was a spammer because of all the links or something. Needless to say, that plugin is gone now.

Retro is the first ADpak expansion for Addictive Drums and features three classic Ludwig drum sets from the 60s and 70s with cymbals from Paiste and Sabian. The drums were recorded in Studios 301 Stockholm in a big recording room with a rich ambience. Retro expands the Addictive Drums library and allows you to mix and match between the original drums and the new vintage kits. Retro also includes cowbells, tambourines and hand claps.

Retro is great for a vintage sound with presets inspired by classic songs. But you can also use the modern presets for an up-to-date sound full of character. Or turn to the RetroMental soundbank for a chance to hear the Ludwig kits like you’ve never heard them before. With the Retro ADpak you get over 1300 midi loops and 70 presets that will get you groovin’ in Motown, banging your head to booming heavy Rock, and tunin’ out to psychedelic Rock’n'Roll!

Retro ADpak is shipping in mid december!

Jon’s tips for successful Protooling

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007
  1. Name the tracks before you start recording.

  2. Disk Allocation is a backstabbing bastard. Keep an eye on him.

  3. Label the I/O setup, do it once, save the template.

  4. Right-Click stuff for more options.

  5. Drag and Drop stuff, there are a bunch of things you can do this with, find out which.

  6. The Smart Tool, most editing can be done with just the Smart Tool.

  7. Use the Zoom Toggle and Unlink Timeline and Edit Selection when working with MIDI.

  8. Learn the shortcuts. Learn the shortcuts. Learn the shortcuts. Learn the shortcuts.

  9. Know where the preference files are stored, you will need to trash them often.

  10. Backup you sessions, defrag your drives, keep your computer healthy.
