To put latency into perspective, when you play an electric guitar, plugged into a guitar amplifier, and you are standing 10 feet away from your amplifier there is a “latency” of about 9 milliseconds. This is because the speed of sound is 1130 feet per second. A rule of thumb is that it takes sound 1 millisecond to travel a foot.
I remember the first time I played electric guitar with a long cable and found that it felt weird because the sound was not quite immediate. After a while you get used to it.
So, can you live with 10ms of latency. Well if you can play electric guitar with a 11 foot cable then the answer is yes.
Speaking of guitars, some effects boxes, especially digital ones have latency which makes it feel less punchy.
Latency is a tough thing to explain without being too technical or confusing.
